The National Joint Registry has tweeted a link to a research paper from Bristol.
The study compared the revision rates of different types of hip replacements with a ‘standard’ THR. The authors said that newer hip replacements were more likely to undergo revision surgery. The study included patients of all age groups and didn’t look at functional outcome.
Choosing the ‘right’ implant for a particular patient isn’t straightforward. one has to take into account all sorts of variables, including age, gender, weight, life expectancy, and what sorts of activities the patient expects to do after surgery. One size does not fit all!
