Driving after hip replacement
Hip replacement surgery is a major operation and so there are, understandably, restrictions on what you can and can’t do during the healing process. For example, you should avoid driving after hip replacement surgery. Major hip surgery adversely affects reaction times – it is therefore recommended that you refrain from driving for 4-6 weeks.
Advice for longer journeys
We recommend that you avoid journeys longer than an hour for at least 6 weeks. This is because your hip will feel uncomfortable and stiff. If you must travel, it’s important that you take regular breaks for about 10-15 minutes.
Advice for travelling by plane
Most airlines advise that you avoid air travel for at least 3 months after surgery. This is due to the increased risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
