Hip Resurfacing

I visited the MatOrtho Factory in Leatherhead, the home of hip resurfacing last week. MatOrtho was called Finsbury and it made the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. Since 2004 MatOrtho has manufactured the Adept hip resurfacing. I have used it since then as it is the only hip resurfacing that has been made on the same production line since its inception. Smith and Nephew bought the rights to make and distribute the BHR in 2004. I heard last week that Smith and Nephew will discontinue the BHR, gradually phasing it out. MatOrtho will continue to manufacture the Adept, and later this year, the ceramic-on-ceramic ReCerf will be introduced for general use. I will be one of the handful of surgeons who will be the first to use it. Having done nearly 1000 resurfacings ove the years, I can’t wait to start offering it to my patients. I discussed some interesting new data with the MatOrtho team. I will share it with you soon. It is very positive! Stay tuned for more information.
